Overview

There are different ways to become a British citizen, but the most common is called naturalisation.

To be naturalised, you need to meet several requirements, including living in the UK for 5 years or more and intending to continue living here. You must also pass two tests: Knowledge of English and Life in the UK. There are a number of other requirements which our expert immigration solicitors can help you with.

There are different requirements if your spouse or civil partner is a British citizen.
EEA nationals must obtain settled status prior to applying for British citizenship.
You can apply on behalf of a child under 18 if they meet the eligibility criteria. They don’t have to pass the Life in the UK Test.
