Robert is a Partner at Taylor Hampton specialising in media litigation.

During his time with the firm he has gained substantial experience of acting for Claimants in high-profile defamation and privacy cases against major newspaper titles, and of other civil litigation matters.

Robert has successfully acted, and is continuing to act, on behalf of many Claimants in claims against major newspaper titles for misuse of private information, arising out of the unlawful interception of their voicemail messages (phone hacking) and other related unlawful practices, obtaining substantial damages and other relief.

He has successfully assisted in the preparation of cases for hearing before the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

Successfully acting for the Claimant in the reported High Court case of Garcia v Associated Newspapers Ltd [2014] EWHC 3137 (QB). The Claimant was awarded substantial damages for libel and his costs after an article in the Daily Mail had falsely condemned him as “a foreign doctor” who had subjected a bus driver patient to “a year of hell” by having his driving licences wrongly and inappropriately revoked.

Successfully acting for the Claimant in the reported High Court case of Burrell v Clifford [2016] EWHC 294 (Ch). The Claimant was awarded damages for misuse of private information and his costs after it emerged that the Defendant had faxed to the News of the World, without his authority, a copy of a private letter which he had written to the Defendant for the purposes of engaging the Defendant’s professional services.

Successfully acting for a corporate client in a defamation action against a major national newspaper, negotiating publication in print and online of an agreed apology, together with an undertaking not to repeat the libels complained of, and payment to the client of substantial damages and costs.
