Garcia V ANL

The High Court has today ruled in Dr Jose Antonio Garcia Serrano v Associated Newspapers Ltd [2014] EWHC 3137 (QB) that an article in the Daily Mail accusing family doctor Antonio Serrano of subjecting a patient to a whole year of hell arising out his being a “foreign doctor” was untrue and defamatory and has awarded him substantial damages.

The article had falsely claimed that Dr Serrano had misdiagnosed the patient as being alcohol dependent and without any investigation or tests, had caused him to lose his bus and driving licence so “robbing” him of his livelihood for a year.

Daniel Taylor, of Taylor Hampton solicitors, acted for Dr Serrano.
