Fintech and Immigration – new tips for applicants

This new update explains Global Talent Applications in the Digital Technology Sector world of Fintech.  Skilled professionals from around the world offer specialized expertise, fostering innovation and creativity within the financial services industry. Increased diversity also brings a global perspective, aiding firms in expanding internationally by providing insights into navigating foreign markets and their regulatory landscapes.

In 2023, the UK tech sector boasted a collective market value exceeding $1 trillion, solidifying its position as a premier global hub for top talent. Therefore, it is no surprise that the financial and technology sector relies heavily on precise and timely visa applications.

Immigration regulations are complex and fast changing. Staying up to date is key to success in the sector. Expert UK visa services are crucial for individuals and companies large and small to navigate the complex regulatory landscape and efficiently access global talent.

Taylor Hampton provides invaluable assistance in understanding and complying with immigration laws and procedures, ensuring that companies can attract and retain the talent they need to remain competitive.

The Global Talent Visa

The UK Global Talent visa route replaced the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) route in 2020, with the purpose of attracting brilliant and ambitious professionals to the UK. The Global talent visa focuses on professionals at the beginning of their careers, or those already established, in a wide range of sectors. These sectors include STEM, arts and culture, humanities, and digital technology.

Employers benefit from the Global Talent route as it provides a more adaptable and less burdensome option than hiring under the Skilled Worker Visa. Unlike the Skilled Worker Visa, the Global Talent route does not mandate employer sponsorship. Organisations are therefore exempt from associated costs like the Immigration Skills Charge when hiring individuals through this route.

To the individual, the Global Talent Visa offers the following benefits:

  • Boundless availability: There’s no limit on endorsements, with applications open year-round for exceptional tech talent.
  • Versatility: No job offer is necessary, enabling job changes or entrepreneurial pursuits without additional authorization form the home office.
  • Career empowerment: No sponsorship license is required, allowing for exploration of diverse career paths without employer constraints.
  • Extensive networks: Join a supportive alumni community comprising top-tier tech professionals.
  • Family inclusiveness: Your immediate family members can accompany you.
  • Extension flexibility: Extend your Global Talent Visa as needed.

There are two pathways to citizenship with a Global Talent Visa:

  1. Exceptional Promise Pathway: Targets early-career professionals showing potential impact. Those on this pathway are eligible for permanent residency status after 5 years.
  2. Exceptional Talent Pathway: For seasoned professionals with significant contributions. Those on this pathway are eligible for permanent residency status after just 3 years.

The Digital Technology Sector

The Digital Technology route is aimed at talented professionals with technical or business skills in the digital world. This pathway covers a professionals with wide ranging roles and skillsets, from technology company founders, fintech innovators, AI and machine learning developers, software engineers and tech marketeers.

Though the Global Talent Visa has streamlined the application process and provides greater flexibility for applicants, only approximately 50% of applications in the digital technology sector are successful.

The Application Process:

There is a two-stage application process.

Endorsement:

Unless you have won a prestigious prize on the recognised prize list, you will need endorsement by a recognised body in your relevant field. For digital technology, this is Tech Nation.

This involves submitting a detailed application that demonstrates exceptional talent or promise in your field.

Endorsing bodies assess applicants based on strict criteria, requiring substantial evidence of exceptional talent or promise in their respective fields. This often necessitates a comprehensive portfolio of achievements, recognition, and contributions. These institutions receive numerous applications and must carefully evaluate each one to select the most deserving candidates. Evaluation of talent and promise can be subjective, as it relies on the judgment of industry experts within the endorsing bodies.

The endorsement stage therefore demands a combination of exceptional talent, thorough documentation, and a nuanced understanding of the selection criteria to successfully navigate the process

Application:

Once endorsed, you are invited to submit an application form.

Applicants complete an online visa application form, providing personal information and details about their immigration history. Significant volumes of important documents may be required in support of the application.

Applicants must also pay the required visa fee and, if applicable, the Immigration Health Surcharge.

The full Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) applies to all temporary work visa applications, including the Global Talent route, except for students and other youth schemes. Certain applicants are also exempt, such as asylum seekers or healthcare professionals.

The IHS is a yearly rate, the precise IHS due for an application is dependent on the length of the visa granted. Failure to comply with the IHS when charged will mean your application will be rejected and not processed. Paying the wrong amount will delay the application.

Once the application is submitted, applicants await a decision from the UKVI, which typically takes a few weeks.

Bringing your family with you

Dependants of individuals granted the Global Talent Visa can join them in the UK. This include spouses, civil partners, unmarried partners, and children under the age of 18.

The main visa holder must demonstrate that they can support their dependents financially while they are in the UK. This usually involves showing proof of adequate funds or employment. Dependants can be included in the initial visa application or separately applied for once the main isa has been granted.

Using a lawyer to help secure your Global Talent Visa

Having a lawyer assist with the Global Talent Visa application offers peace of mind, expert guidance, and increased chances of success. It allows applicants to navigate the complex immigration process with confidence and ensure that their application is managed professionally and efficiently. This reduces the risk of errors or omissions that could lead to delays or rejections.

We can also assist with gathering and organizing the required documentation, ensuring that all necessary materials are properly compiled and submitted.
