Immigration support for Ukrainian based Britons
An update on immigration support for Ukrainian based Britons from Taylor Hampton Solicitors.
Home Secretary Priti Patel announced today that the UK is temporarily easing visa rules and restrictions for British nationals with family members in Ukraine. These family members can apply for a family migration visa for FREE (all fees waived) if they are a family member of a British national who usually lives in Ukraine. We list below those that apply:
Which family members of British nationals can apply?
The family member of the British national should usually be one of the following –
- a spouse or civil partner
- an unmarried partner: You must have been living together in a relationship for at least 2 years
- your parent if you are under the age of 18
- your child under the age of 18
- an adult relative you provide care for who lives with you due to a medical condition
Consequently, the rules are loosened for British nationals fleeing the Ukrainian conflict amidst fears of the Russian invasion. The official government guidance is to avoid all travel to Ukraine. Therefore, the government has urged all nationals who usually live in Ukraine to leave Ukraine and return to the UK. So they are moving to waive all fees are to encourage these nationals to leave alongside their families based on escalating casualties.
Currently the UKVI is aiming to process migration visas within 24 hours, making it even easier to leave Ukraine as needed.
